OUR STORY

Vivaret was founded in Kontiolahti, Finland in 2019. We specialise in bespoke timber designs that are built to stand the test of time. The founder and CEO of Vivaret, Jonathan Carle, is an accomplished carpenter, who is passionate about creating unique timber designs that are built using the traditional Timber Frame construction method, and which will last from one generation to another, retaining their beauty and value for years to come.

“At Vivaret, we believe in quality and sustainability. Thanks to the traditional construction methods, our products are designed and built in an ecological and safe manner with great attention to detail, setting us miles apart from our competitors.”

– Jonathan

The accomplished team of carpenters at Vivaret design and build wooden cabins, treehouses and roofing structures with the highest professional expertise, according to your unique requirements. Vivaret can turn your building ideas and dreams into reality; from wooden structures and buildings of any size to purpose-built furniture or fixtures. In addition to building from scratch, Vivaret also specialises in the restoration of old buildings.

The story behind the name

The name Vivaret has its origins in ‘vive-arête’, a term used by French carpenters up until the 20th century to mark the right angles found in buildings or different materials such as stone or wood. The logo of Vivaret, on the other hand, is based on the centuries-old symbol system traditionally used by French builders and carpenters, and which is still widely used by Timber Frame professionals.

The symbols act as guidance for Timber Frame builders showing them which part goes where. Even though the process of constructing wooden structures is heavily automated in many parts of Europe these days, French carpenters still learn the system as part of their professional training, and the symbols are used to a great extent.

JONATHAN CARLE

I’m the founder and CEO of Vivaret. I grew up at the French Alps, but spent most of my childhood summers in Finland. Together with my Finnish relatives I was always busy creating something out of wood, and after finishing school, decided to pursue my dream of becoming a professional carpenter. While being trained in France, I learned that there was a demand for unique, ecological and handcrafted wood designs in Finland. I’m hugely passionate about what I do, which is reflected in the high quality of my craftsmanship. In all my designs I strive to create something that is unique, full of character and will last from one generation to the next.
